Schoolteacher killed in Meherpur road accident

A schoolteacher was killed and her husband was injured in a road accident at village Malshadaho of Gangni upazila in Meherpur on Monday.

The deceased, Shamima Khatun, 55, wife of Firozul Islam, a resident of village Karomdi in the upazila, was a teacher of Karomdi Primary School.

Quoting local people, Gangni police station officer-in-charge Rafiqul Islam said that the accident took place in the area in the morning when a speedy drum truck collided head on with a motorcycle while Firozul and his wife Shamima were going to the school.

Shamima, at one stage, slipped down and crashed under the wheel of the truck that left him dead and her husband, Firozul, critically injured on the spot.

Local people rescued injured Firozul and took him to Gangni Upazila Health Complex for treatment.

On information, a team of police recovered the body from the spot and sent it to Meherpur General Hospital morgue for a post-mortem examination, the police official said.

The police seized the drum truck but its driver managed to flee, the OC said, adding that they were trying to arrest him.
